Taken together, the 100 cities in this directory have an estimated 290.5 million residents (about 2,905 lakh) in 2025. The largest are Delhi (34.7 million), Mumbai (22.1 million) and Kolkata (15.8 million), followed by 97 smaller cities. Population figures come from the UN's 2024 urban-area estimates for the biggest cities and from scaled Census 2011 data for the rest.

Applying state-level hospital-bed ratios to these populations gives about 5,20,000 hospital beds, including some 26,000 ICU beds, in an estimated 14,000 hospitals (roughly 4,600 public and 9,100 private). Across India the average is about 1.39 beds per 1,000 people, well under the WHO's often-quoted benchmark of 3.

On the national ratio of one practising doctor per 811 people, these cities would have about 3,60,000 doctors and 6,50,000 nurses and midwives across all systems of medicine. A sexologist is one of many specialities within that total. Specialist head-counts are not published city by city, so these figures show scale, not how many sexologists practise in India.

India has national infant mortality of 24 per 1,000 live births (2024) and life expectancy of about 72 years. This page lists 97 sexologists across these cities, and every city and state below has its own page with maps, qualifications to check and answers to common questions.

General information compiled from public sources (MoHFW, SRS 2024, CDDEP / One Health Trust, UN WPP 2024, Census 2011); estimates, not official counts, and not medical advice.

How to choose a sexologist

  1. Check the qualification: "Sexologist" is not a separate NMC specialty. Look for an MBBS doctor with MD (Psychiatry or Dermatology-Venereology) or an MS/MCh in Urology, with sexual-medicine training.
  2. Verify registration with the NMC / State Medical Council register; ask for the registration number and check it and note the registration number.
  3. Ask what the consultation includes and whether tests, follow-ups and procedures are charged separately.
  4. Look for clear, itemised communication about costs; avoid anyone who guarantees a cure.
  5. Check practical details: location, clinic hours, appointment system, and whether emergency back-up exists if something goes wrong.
Be careful of advertisements promising guaranteed cures or instant results. Such claims are restricted under the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954 and NMC rules. A qualified doctor will explain options honestly.

Frequently asked questions: Sexologists in India

Which cities have listed sexologists?

We hold sexologists listings for 100 Indian cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Surat and others. Each city has its own page with contact details and local information.

How many sexologists are listed in India?

This page shows 97 listed providers across 100 cities. It is a starting point rather than a complete register, so use the qualification and registration checks on each city page before booking.

Who is the best sexologist in India?

There is no single best doctor for everyone: the right choice depends on your condition, budget and city. Shortlist two or three sexologists, check their qualification and registration with the NMC / State Medical Council register; ask for the registration number and check it, and compare facilities and communication. Dr. Sudhir Bhola (Delhi) is the first listing on this page - confirm details by phone.

Can diabetes or blood pressure affect sexual health?

Yes. Diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, some medicines, stress and low hormone levels can all affect sexual function. A doctor will usually check these along with the sexual history.

Should my partner come along?

It is entirely your choice. For some concerns, such as desire or intimacy problems, joint sessions help. For others you may prefer to attend alone first.
